    1. Twink, the Toy Piano Band! Twink, the Toy Piano Band!

About Twink The Toy Piano Band

Twink The Toy Piano Band is Mike Langlie, an artist and musical mad scientist living near Boston, MA. One day Mike found an old toy piano in a thrift store and fell in love with its charming, off-kilter tones. Soon more little pianos followed him home and a fun new project was born. Many creative folks have collaborated with Mike as part of the ever-evolving band.

Mike's music combines unlikely instruments and moods. Songs range from imaginary cartoon soundtracks to spooky lullabies to hyper toytronica.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of music does Twink The Toy Piano Band make?

I think "Toytronica" describes it best: The sounds of simple toys and high tech electronic instruments colliding to make something playful and often unexpected.

NPR describes it as "fun and very imaginative." Performer Magazine says "Picture your stuffed animal collection at a late-night rave in an enchanted forest - Twink is the music they are dancing to."

Where did you get the name?

I chose the name Twink The Toy Piano Band because it sounds like the noise a toy piano makes.

      Isn't there another Twink?

There are some unrelated Twinks out there whom I was unaware of until years after I started this project. The 1960s British psychedelic singer-drummer John Alder goes by the alias "Twink." At least two other bands have released albums under the name Twink since I started my own project. The 1980s cartoon Rainbow Brite had a character named "Twink." There's a 1967 Ken Nordine album titled "Twink." I've even come across a kids' clothing line with the name.

If you see a Twink CD and want to make sure it's by my Toy Piano Band, check my Albums page.

Can I use your music for my movie / TV show / website / game / etc?

get in touch if you'd like to discuss a specific situation.

Does Twink The Toy Piano Band make children's music?

I didn't intend to be the next Raffi, just to make fun and quirky instrumental music. Twink has received positive feedback from all kinds of folks including kids, punks, and grandmothers. (And even a punk grandmother or two!) It's certainly kid-safe and the whippersnappers seem to enjoy it.

I found an old toy piano. Can you tell me what it's worth?

Sorry, I'm not good at appraising. I buy toy pianos to play with, not for their collector value.

Are there other musicians that use toy instruments?

Heck yeah! Here are just a few:
